Fourth of July in France

The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. I love the red, white and blue, fireworks, cookouts, fruit pizzas, and of course, America. So I wasn't sure how I felt about spending my favorite holiday in another country. Luckily, we found plenty to do for a fun day and even went to a Fourth of July celebration. Thanks, Paris.
First stop, Notre-Dame Cathedral. This is another spectacular sight to see even though you see pictures and hear about it all the time. It will be celebrating it's 850th year of existence this coming year.

The LSU traveling choir was performing. The acoustics are amazing.

We each lit a candle in the cathedral

Kody and I then made the long trip up 402 narrow, spiraling stairs. Shaking legs and claustrophobia aside, it was worth it to go all the way to the top of the towers.

Going in to see the oldest, and only original bell that is left (the others were melted down during the French Revolution).

Emmanuel Bell-it weighs 13 tons! They only use it during special Catholic celebrations, but the other four are rung several times each day.

We made it to the very top!

Using these stairs the entire way up... And back down. (And to think I thought I might miss the gym-false.)

Next, we headed to place a lock on a bridge overlooking the Seine River.

And then we headed to the Louvre. Talk about a crowded, huge place.

We made the major stops. Including Venus de Milo

The Mona Lisa

The Turkish Bath

And saw many things along the way.

And finally, we headed to the Arc de Triumphe for the Fourth of July celebration.

I'm glad we found a way to celebrate America on our Independence Day. We sang our Anthem at the Arc, accompanied by the French military band. We are enjoying our time in Europe, but I am SO glad we live in the land of the free and home of the brave. Truly, God bless America.
