First up was Sainte-Chapelle. Inside there are 15, 50 foot stained glass windows that tell Biblical stories from the Garden of Eden to the Apocalypse. The chapel was built from 1246-1248 and was originally a shrine to relics of the Crucifixion. The "Holy Chapel" is said to have held the Crown of Thorns at first, but it is now in the vault at Notre-Dame.
Being as old as they are, the windows obviously undergo restoration from time to time. Seven of the 15 windows were being restored, but we still had a great view.
If you're ever in Paris and go to Notre-Dame, you should definitely take the short walk over to Sainte-Chapelle. The stained glass really is incredible.
Next, we headed to the Opera House. Our original plan was that we would go in and do the tour, but we decided to sit on the front steps and take a break before going inside. Within five minutes a man named Youri Menna started to perform. He was so entertaining that we ended up watching him for two hours, the Opera House closed, and we never made it inside. I'll post a few of his videos on Facebook at some point, but we had such a fun time at this unexpected performance. I mean, the guy spoke like six languages just while we watched and sang a lot like Jason Mraz - pretty impressive.
And yes, I bought a CD for 10€.
